    Mono under PE?

I'm getting ready to spool up my new Daiwa 30T. With hollow core I have never worried about putting a mono "cushion" under the braid. But with the thin solid PE, I'm thinking it might be a good idea.

How are you guys doing it? What test mono and how much if any?

Part two of the question is how are you connection the mono to the PE?

I've had to spool up a lot of these reels in the shop I work in... you'll really enjoy it if it's your first. But anyways, I think mono backing is the best way to go...some people say rubber bands or electrical tape or whatever, but I feel like if that reel sits in the sun all day and the rubberband etc melts, it won't be a lot of fun to have to clean when you respool. On that reel you'd be fine with just 16-20lb and you can do anything from a uni-uni knot, to my favorite, a bimini in the braid with the mono attatched by a no-name.

alot of serious jig guys spool all jigging line
so they wont have a knot in the line

i seems that may be the way to go with all braid

but it is personal preferance if you want the knots
    with a mono backing

All braid for me Jim on all my reels. Heavy two sided tape on the spool and fill her up! Never had a problem. I replace my braid every other year or so. Mostly power pro in the past daiwa PE for the last few months.

if you decide to put mono underneath it...all you really need is just enough to cover the spool, like 15 yards is all. you're basically just giving the braid something to bite down on.

Jim, you remember what happened to those other guys when we went? Don't want to be out there and have that happen. I'd pack it full. The tape idea is gaining popularity but I have a couple feet of mono under mine.

If you go with mono I would go with something heavier that already recommended though (40-60) and attach the PE with a PR knot for sure. Not that you will ever see it but it is nice to know it's there.

Jim - all my reels are straight braid. I get a wrap of tape on the spool arbor then get 8 wraps of braid on there and finish it off with a uni.
