I agree and planned on using kevlar. I was wondering if spliceing the kevlar to make a small loop like making a wind-on would have any effect on the knot. Since you would only have 1 cord where the knot was tied.

It doesn't effect the Kevlar at all. That is how i make mine. Double the lenght that you need. I slide a solid wire insde the kevlar and poke it out. Then pull through the other end. You need to flair the end being pulled to fit.

Look for model rocket sites! I found once called Uncle Mikes Rocket shop and there was another one out there. 400# kevlar cord for around $.51 a foot. I got $20 of it shipped for under $17, next time I am ordering more kevlar, since the shipping was like $7 and the 20' of kevlar was like $10 or so. They also have 150#, 400#, 600# and 1000#! It is 3 strands twisted together, but seems to make decent assist cord.

it a little more expensive yet you get more kevlar. it is #50 and 500 pound.

the site also ahs different types of hooks and split rings for the hooks as well
