out of the ones you mentioned I would probably use the first which is the owner gorillas. IMHO the Gamakatsu, the mustad and the Jobus are either too long or to narrow.

I used two Jobus, zip tied together in Panama as a treble hook and they definately do work but for jigging I prefer a shorter hook.

Gman,
Here is a good picture of what you are talking about. The 10/0 heavy hook on left and 10/0 feather hook on the right.

Now thats what Im talking about both will do but I love that feather hook see the nice angle, cutting point and wide gap. Thats a winner in my book especially if you can get a little glow on the feather ... deadly

My pleasure glad you enjoyed it. I would use 50 size kevlar, its hard to judge hook sizes as some manufactures vary a lot. For instance the shout hooks are 7/0 but is the equivilent to a 13/0 siden hook. So my suggestion is take a jig to your local tackle shop and find some wider short shanked hooks that are wide and start there.

Flatsides are a very very productive jig BTW any other questions fire away
Thanks for the feedback GMAN. This is what I am thinking with these style jigs, let me know what you think...

All these pics are on 8 1/2 x 11" paper so you can get a feel for the jig length - they are all fairly long and heavy. I like it that way because we drift 50% and they don't scope that way.
While we are drifting/chunking we already have 4-5 rods deployed and I want to stay out of the way with the jig.

Item 1:12oz hammer jig with a single or trebble...this is what we have been fishing lately with decent success. Some pulled hooks. Would you add assist hooks and dump the single?

Item 2: Flatside jig...I am thinking 2 assist hooks with different lengths.

Item 3: knife jig has a hook, but I want to replace with 2 assist hooks different length

I was never too enthusiastic about jigging when chunking, but I am becoming a believer after seeing what can happen when you get the fish under the boat

I would suggest one assist hook only on those jigs.

Also can I give you a tip?

If you want you jig to go straight down while dropping on a drift pinch the line between your thumb and index finger. The sllight tension will make it go vertical instead of horizontal even with heavier currents I can still get down quickly with a lighter jig

All three of those jigs will produce I would put a shorter shanked single on the hammered or a 3/0 or 4/0 st76 trebel hook

Ordered a few packs of different sized Gorillas and some 120827BLN mustads to try for lighter fish (Cod, striped bass, bluefish, mahi, etc) if they won't be strong enough for tuna. I have a ton of weight lifting stuff, so I may see exactly how strong the kevlar and hooks are!!! I found Kevlar cord thru some Model Rocketry websites, 400# stuff is incoming, 20' of it for under $17 shipped IIRC. They have 400 and 600#, as well as 1000# stuff available! Is any type of superglue OK??

Any type is ok. Over the years I have used every kind available to do spectra windons and handcuffs, which is basically the same thing.

overhand knot?

It is amazing that that little overhand knot doesn't slip. I guess the superglue is the key?
About how much does it cost per hook to make these?
Thanks.

i think unwrapped assist hook is better as well for speed jigging. for tuna i prefer slow jigging as i've had better success for YFT with this method.
