Oh Yeah the mind reader. See the need then fulfill it. This what I was here to ask and you put it up already. Great post Gman. Would it matter if I doubbled 130 JB Hollow or do you think the knott would be to big around the ring loop area. I mean could it cause a obstruction IYHO? IF yes would some shring fix it because I don not have the Kevlar.
Thanks.

You an use whatever type of string/cord you want. Kevlar just holds up better and is highly suggested although Ive seen people using thicker braid and hollowcore. Just a matter of personal preference

Thanks for the tip I'll give it a try on my hooks.

Still watching the weather cautiously hoping to get out this weekend and give it a shot.

I'll probably put up a seperate post about glueing premade hooks. Its something I am going to start doing to all the hooks that come on my jigs. Its a trick that I think anyone can use with any OEM hook.

Its amazing how much stronger the super glue makes the knots and serves. In fact, its pretty much a requirement for the knots.

Btw, Jim, what's the cord/line you use on your hooks?

Tony,
They are OEM hooks and I have lost more sleep over them, than anything else I have done all put together. Lets just say its no wonder many of the other folks don't include them. I'm almost to the point of just taking them all off all together I order one thing, they send me something else. I get what I want and they are not sharp enough or pull out.

But, I think they add a lot of value to the product, so i will continue to plug away at it. Next week, I'll start off with a new supplier for all my current stuff, as well as some cool new stuff.

I will say that gluing the hook is now on my spec sheet

....I forgot to answer the actual question. As far as I can tell its poly cord. It has an outer sleeve with thread strands in the middle. Definetely not kevlar, although that was spec'd for them, I could never get it actually produced.

What do you think of Owner Gorillas and Jobu's, Gamakatsu Tuna hook tin or regular, or their Live bait heavy duty hook, or Mustad 7732's, 7691DT? I'm set up with Merrick, thats why I am looking at those brands!

Ah, the trials and tribulations of a manufacturer. And people think this stuff is easy! But I do like the hooks themselves, especially the 10/0. Nice gap and very heavy gauge. No fish's gonna bend that thing! (And I have had other hooks bent!)

Good Stuff

Good Stuff GMAN!

You make it look so easy I will give it a try. I will start out with the one size and see how it goes from there.

Since I usually fish heavy flat side jigs for average 60# yellowfin, if you were going to put assist hooks what size hook/kevlar would you use?

The 12oz flat side jigs are pretty wide and you say always use a hook that is wider than the jig so would a 9/0 or 10 be too big?

Thanks for the article and I hope you don't mind a few question.

My pleasure glad you enjoyed it. I would use 50 size kevlar, its hard to judge hook sizes as some manufactures vary a lot. For instance the shout hooks are 7/0 but is the equivilent to a 13/0 siden hook. So my suggestion is take a jig to your local tackle shop and find some wider short shanked hooks that are wide and start there.

Flatsides are a very very productive jig BTW any other questions fire away
