    Mahi Casting lure recommendations please!

    Hey all,

Would be grateful for advice on suitable lures for casting to mahi. Appreciate your recommendations for lures for the schoolie sized fish and for the gaffers. Anticipated situations: under birds and near flotsam. Tackle will be 12 and 20 lb class mono spinning gear.

    Thanks,
    patudo

When I pull up to fishy looking flotsam or get into a school of dorado here in Costa Rica I always go with a walk the dog style surface lure. They're effective, and it's hard to beat a surface strike for excitement. A rapala surface walk and gunz tailwalk are my two favorites.

I catch a lot of dorado on vertical jigs as well. They're great for teasing fish holding deep up to the surface as well.

ive A LOT of luck with the sebile line - mainly the stick shad in the larger size(cant remember the number) in the blue/blood color. Also like the white/blood too. pretty much any fish will hit these lures, but they have proven themselves with me for dolphin.

    i like the floating ones

They will hit anything. Above recs are great as well, but I use a Bucktail.

I like a white or yellow bucktail. Regular mono leader. Easy and accurate cast. Sinlgle hook is easy to remove. If you tip it with squid/strip bait even better.

PS cast it high, the splash will draw their attention.

    Good Luck

Have always used a little piece of cut bait ... nothing beats meat.
