The next bite on a jig.

    Lowrance HDS

Anybody used these for jigging yet? Looks like you could microwave them with it.

Never really saw them in use other than boat shows. I know I've never been a fan of Lowrance but that doesn;t mean their not making improvements. The late 90's models were horrible using one on my buddies Mako.

It seems like it would be great for jiggers so you could make out specific parts of the wreck. But I am not sure how clear the picture would be in 300+ feet.

Jim. Is that the side scanning model??? hear it is good shallow and fresh water but would be interesting to use here in NZ as we jig pretty deep most of the time.
Heard good things about the broadband sounder though very popular over here already!!

I have an HDS-8 and an LCX-28c side by side. I really like the HDS and it has a good picture. However I'm still trying to figure out how to maximize the unit.

    I have a 600w through hull transducer.

The top right pic is a side scan, I have not seen one of these in person.

Actually, the top right is the new "down scan" Lowrance recently released with the new Structure Scan black box. The top left is a side scan. This technology has been around for a while in Humminbird units and freshwater guys swear by them for side scanning shorelines and bridges. The side scan also comes in handy for those that enjoy fishing wrecks as well. The new down scan looks interesting but I doubt it reinvents the wheel when it comes to fish finding.

I plan on adding an HDS to my set up over the winter mainly for additional waypoint storage, but will also use for fish finding once I see a side by side comparison to my raymarine.
