    Looking to plan an AJ-athon!!

I'm looking to finally get at these AJ's! And I'm not talking about driving out and dunkin' a few jigs...I'm talkin about whoopin some AJ/blackfin/anything else that bites ass! After two seasons of listening to these amazing stories, its time to make some room on the calendar and make some stories of my own. I'm thinking of either trailering a boat down, finding a charter perhaps, or even hooking up with an open boat setup. Either way, time to jig up some AJ's! Would I want to fish out of the Atlantic Beach/Morehead area or out of the Hatteras area? The calendar says I can come on March 11th and leave on the 15th, so as long as the weather gods don't frown upon me, that should leave 2-3 serious days of jigging! It would be me and a few buddies or me by myself, depending on the final options. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions for this trip? tight lines, taggs

2 or 3 days of AJ jigging .......... you must be sadistic.

I am having a hard time lifting my hands to type this post after our aj fest yesterday. We pulled on dozens of them yesterday, and I won't be ready to do it again for at least another day.

If you need some help on getting in the donks out of Morehead City, drop me a pm.

Oh boy…after one day you'll realize why they call them "The Pain"…the second, well, your arms will be useless…a third? I don't think it's possible

If I were you I'd think about continuing south a bit. Go out of Wilmington with Captain Chip http://www.offshore-experiences.com/ and you will not regret it. It's always fun to take your own boat, but there is something to be said for showing up with your gear and going out with a local who knows the spots…then all you have to worry about is pretending you aren't completely whooped

Shoe - thanks for the heads up, it would b nice to get out with a local guy. And...(this is inexperience and ignorance talking) but I'd really like to try myself on 2-3 days of AJ's! To feel whooped like that would be amazing!

How long is the AJ/blackfin/grouper fishing good until?

AJ fishing will only get better and move closer as the water warms. Right now runs are 40+ miles from Morehead 55 from Wrightsville.
blackfins will bite through March, mostly in 40+ fathoms
Grouper is good year around, however season is currently closed through April.

Many of the offshore wrecks near the break will hold jacks this time of year, as do all high spots at the break (30 fathom curve). You can catch fish on your own boat, assuming you have good electronics and can safely fish offshore this time of year.

    Good luck,

    AJ- year round

blackfin - seem to more of a winter deal out of morehead/wilmy, but year round for tuna from hatteras.

Grouper - will open back up May 1. Can only keep snowies until then.

Next calm day I will be heading out to find some AJ's and Blackfin out of Morehead on my Contender. Any and all (up to 4) are welcome to join. I am dying for some pullage and really hate spending money on fish at Whole Foods!
