Look up wrightsvill beach, it has the wrecks labeled on the map, put the center curser on the wreck, look in the bottom left corner of the screen for the GPS coordinates.

All these wrecks are gonna have amberjack. If its 25lbs, they will think they hooked into a whale. The deeper the wreck, the bigger the amberjack.

well here is the report... sad to say that it is not a very good one. we didnt make it out saturday b/c one of the guys comig with us had something come up. no biggie, we waited and went out yesterday. got out the inlet at sunrise and it was kinda choppy. we were planning on heading out to find some wrecks and maybe a ledge if we ran acroos one. about 10 miles offshore it was around 2-3. 20 miles it was gettin bigger and at 30 miles it was rollercoasterish. the gps stopped transmitting about 100 yds from the 1st wreck. we ended up doing a drift over a bunch of reef in about 78 ft of water. i dont know why the gps did that but about 30 minutes later it started working again. i didnt fish at all b/c i was trying to keep the boat from getting swamped. my boat is only a 22 footer but i have had her out in worse weather. it just tends to get sporty at 3-5+. i rigged my boys up with some dead spanish sardines but the water was still cold so i figured that the outcome would be dogfish with the occasional black bass. and it was yay!!! (sarcasm) but they were happy to be catching stuff. they caught about 50 of them and got bored so we pulled up the lines and we headed to another little spot. same outcome. by this time it was getting really bumpy so we decided to head back in. we got back inshore and it was pretty calm. we hit up a few inshore spots and caught more dogfish. made a few sandwiches and headed back to the ramp. we were all beat so we loaded up the boat and headed back to ft bragg. the guys were happy to get out on the water even with the conditions like they were. thats the best thing about my boys. it doesnt matter what we are doing. even if the conditions are chit. we are gonna have a good time! i didnt get any great pics but we are gonna give it a try next week. maybe friday or the monday after that. hopefully it will be more productive. hey guys i just wanted to say thanks for the ideas about where to go offshore. if you guys didnt help me out then we probably would have never went fishing this weekend. i hope to give a good report next week.

It could be a loose wire, or I know some units shut off if the voltage drops below 12.0 volts, they will come back on if the volts get above 12.0 again.

Sounds like you had a good day on the water, some days you just have to make the best of the cards you are given.

Yep, many things can run down your voltage, other than just a bad battery. A stuck bilge float switch can be one source, especially in rough conditions. Bad grounds and the list goes on. But cold weather will normally be the nail in the coffin for a boardline battery. The bad part is the unit turning off is only a symptom of the problem and people chase it.

i dont think it was the voltage. i thought that it could be voltage at first but i was reading 13 volts on the gauge and the unit was reading 12.9v. the unit never actually shut off. it just lost our gps signal for a while. the depth finder still worked like a champ but it was so windy and rough that we got blown offcourse during the search for the wreck without the help of a gps. it acquired a signal about 30 minutes later. we made due with what we had. next weekend we will give it another shot. if its not rough then i am gonna take the wife too. she is normally good luck on the boat. we will see.
