for what is worth. I recently did some of my own pull test on my drag scale with spiderwire stealth 50lb after i had some lower than expected performance of my bimini knots. previously I had been using 16 turns in my biminis for braid because I read an article somewhere regarding the "counterintuitive bimini" (sportfishing mag) which said less turns worked better and 12turns was producing 100% strength. my knots were consistently breaking at 25-26lbs on my scale. I then bumped it up to 20 turns and i got ~35lbs then to 30 turns and got 44-45lbs.

Certainly all of this will vary line to line because of different braid stiffness and coatings etc. but at least in my small scale test more turns is better and I will be using no less than 30 turns in my biminis in the future.

    Jrz,
Thats the way to do it. The same knot with the same line may even vary from person to person, depending on how each individual applies pressure differently.

Testing with a scale will tell the whole story.

    Thanks,
    Jim

We did the same thing and it was amazing the difference in variation from person to person...

Jim, I want some! Let me know when they get here, I'll probably forget in 7 weeks. I want to try some of those smaller ones too on some near shore areas on my lighter jigging rod.

I'll take preorders in a few weeks when I have a landing date.

I agree with you 100% I think it really comes down to who is tying the knot. Tying braid can be more difficult than tying mono for some. I for one can tie a Knot easier in JB than a knot in the Daiwa Boat braid. When you hear of so many failures in a certain line it catches my attention when I am using the same line. I am satisfied with the results I got on the tests and the knots I tied. I wouldn't hesitate tying a spider hitch. The spider hitch is easier for me to retie on the boat...Mark

I have been using a bimini since I started fishing. and have never had it fail. I have had knots that I connected my leader to the bimini fail...but have never had to retie a bimini on the boat. I can see where it could be difficult on a rough sea...but I still feel confident I can tie it to hold while on the boat. Practice makes perfect also! I would also recommend practicing whatever you feel confident in if you haven't done it in awhile before tying the one you'll use. Don't be afraid to start over if you think something just doesn't look right with it either, even if it holds when you pull it tight. Just my opinion though, I have only been fishing about 3 years.

It doesnt really matter what the knot is as long as you are comfortable fishing it with 40-50lb of drag.

The best for jigging is sill the PR I believe.
