    Kayak jigging equipment

Hello my friends, i have been kayak fishing for three months and since the first day I just think in my next, I am completly hooked into it and specially into the adrenaline jigging produce. I have been a full week searching e-stores, forums and reviews toward a nice rod and reel specially design for jigging and I have a tight budget. The thing is that I am looking for something reliable for the moment I have my first big strike. My equipment so far are:8' SB Med-Hvy rod with a Penn 6500ssm, 7' Abu Garcia Conolon 200 Medium action rod with a Shimano Spool F4 400s reel and a 5'10 Shakespeare Ugly Stick medium rod with a Shakespeare 3500 reel(all of my reels are spinning reels). I consider myself a rookie since I haven't had a big catch yet, but i have a lot of motivation so i want to have the right equipment for that moment, that means rod, reel, line, leader, jig selection, etc. I will apreciate any advice for all of your jigging experience.
    Sincerly,

The next bite on a jig.
"Normally on a good clean and flat day i can get up to 200' depht in reef bottoms. "

"Also do you think a good jigging combo will be suitable for trolling?"

I copied the above out of your other post in the jigging intro thread. I am going to recommend conventional Diawa Saltist 30T for your application. I think the conventional will be easier to jig from a kayak.

    hello
I jig from a jetski and my set up is very ligth.
smith amj 330 gr and trinidad 16n
shimano blue rose and trinidad 16

I'm consider to get a saltiga 20 for the blue rose but I haven't got the money to spend.
What I'm trying to said is, you get the ligthest set up you can get
because you are stting on the kayak and if the fish make a run you are going with it.
Sometimes i get a good size blackfin on the 20 pounds and if she goes and can feel it turning my jetski and another point is that you dont have to work it around the boat, you are alone, you can manuver the fish aruond the kayak with out a problem so you can take a ligther and shorter rod.
shimano is the way to go for me because the equipment last longer for some reason and is easy to fix at any tackle store. I have my trinidads for more than 2 years and they get wet and many,
many times fell in the water and still working rigth.
last year i used one trinidad for more than 100 days and 90% on a jet ski.
If you buy cheap equipment you will pay at the water when the fish is gone.

    Dont worry rookie!

Look for local kayak surf legend " el tupamaro" he will help you out with any questions. You can find him on sundays at the APT at the marcasino. He usually will answer up to 3 questions, any more and he gets a bit cranky and might tell you to fck off in a sort of polite way. If you have more than 3 questions bring him a six pack of Coronas and he might not get all that cranky.

i was originally going to suggest an OTI 200 or 350g rod - because they are a quality, yet middle of the road rod that wont cost too much. BUT after i looked at the price which is at or below $300, for $360 you can get a BlackHole 250g 5'6". these rods are THE BEST, i would probably put a Shimano Saragosa 18k on it, 60 or 80lb line.

i understand thats a pricey setup, but it will literally catch anything you can throw at it - a big plus for you is that if the fish is big enough it will tow you so being spooled is a little less likely.

grabbing a used reel will save you a ton of money - and for the most part, the used ones are as good as the new ones, just not as pretty. maybe put new drag washers in it and have it serviced and it literally would be better than new.

if the rod is too much money, picking up a used one would be the way to go. if you pick them both up used you could probably get fishing for around $400ish??? i may be off but i think thats about right. maybe more, maybe less. who knows.

good luck! cant wait to see pictures!
