July 31 :BFT with Capt Chip

We posted this on another forum, but just wanted to add some more pics.

This was my first trip with this kind of fishing (spin gear casting to big tuna) although I have caught and landed many tuna to 250lbs, this was a completely new experience. I was fishing with Paul, Jose, and Capt. Chip Baker.

Captain Chip Baker is at his first year fishing the BFT out of GH, and Chip handles these waters like a veteran. He positions the boat perfectly for us to cast onto the crashing tuna, and he just has his $%$t down. I was very impressed.

We landed a 62incher, lost a couple of others, beautiful day on the water. We were out there same day as Kil who was with Capt Dom. The GH marina has a ton of mosquitos, bring your repellant

Fishing is excellent right now...highly recommend Capt Chip for anyone going there to target the BFT on the artificials.

    gear used:

Ocean Revolution Black Devil 200 rod
    Shimano Stella 18k
    Hot Lure Daiwa Saltiga 18s

These rods are amazing, i had no fear handling these tuna and they have been tested with fish over 300lbs, so I believe these OR rods are ideal for battling these big tuna on spin gear. The reels are amazing.

Ohhhh no Glenn, I am nowhere near where you guys are. But I learned a lot from this trip, from you, Sami,Nick, Adrian, Paul, Chip, Jose...everyone... Chip was the master, handling the boat AND hooking all three fish on this trip...none of us got a hook up, although Paul and Jose did have a couple of boils on their lures.

Chip gave me the first fish, and I had it to color, but then it started some crazy maneuvers around the boat that just killed my back. My TunaMax belt is just not meant for me and this type of fishing, when Chip switched me ot the black magic belt, I felt a lot better..but the damage had been done by then, and I had to hand off the fish to Jose, who then handed it off to Paul, who faught it like a champ only to have the fish spit the hook.

Anyways, it was a good learning experience, I feel more comfortable going forward..

PS: That tip Glenn gives about your spool and wind knots... DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY LOL

Thats a good tip right there, that I had not heard before.

Thanks for posting up Gal. It takes a few trips to get the hang of any kind of fishing. You will be much better prepared on your next one.
