You are guys are killing me, I gotta build one of these and try it. If I like it I'm sure all my buddies will want one too.
One of my questions is reels seats. Are you using graphite seats on all the rods?
Fenwick is using some type of alum reel seat on their saltsticks that has taperd hoods which fit nicely in your hand. Haven't been able to find any manufacturer that supplies them. I'd like to put this type of seat on my rod I build and possibly try one of those trigger type aftermarket reel seat clamps...not sure how it will fit in the hand, just curious what others are using.
Thanks,
JT
Since these new generation jig rods are Japanese designed, they are heavily into weight reduction. Therefore tend to favor graphite reel seats and titanium guides. Although Zenaq's "Monster Buster" rod uses an Al. seat. The Fuji PSSM reel seat is a "palming" reel seat made for jig fishing with conventional reels. You will also see minimal rear grips and reduced tapered fore grips on the rods. Most rod blanks are very narrow diameters with very thick walls for strenght. Material used is always graphite with another material like boron, fibreglass or titanium.
Paul, we've had a complete reversal of opinion on clamping onto graphite reel seats - we no longer do it. I feel that clamping distorts the reelseat enough to break the glue bond beneath. Last thing you want is a spinning reelseat with a big fish going nuts! Besides, spinning reels don't have clamps![]()
