    Jigging Rod and Reel Setup

    Guys,

would like to purchase two jigging setups. one conventional and the other spinning. would use to fish grouper out of wilmington and tuna out of Oregon Inlet.

any suggestions on combos, braid size, line to braid connections?

also would not like to break the bank if possible.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It all boils down to the $ you want to spend per setup.

250$ combo, or 1500$ combo. and anywhere inbetween.

What you have to decide is How much money you want to spend per combo. Give the peramiters and we can suggest different options.

I was figuring around 450 to 500 dollars per combo.

i fished OI last year for tiles and grouper
i was using my longer tuna rods.
    they were 7 to 8'
    saltiga reels
we really didnt catch much bigger fish,
the snowey grouper was over 20#
these work well for these fish.
and they caught the tuna in my avatar.
    these were custom lami rods.

for a shorter rod there are some good choice.
i have that new custom VJigging rod for 209$
for a little more more the OTI are a good choice.
the travellas are a ok starter.

    the saltist
or saragosa are good starter reels

I would go with OTI for both rods and a Shimano Saragoosa and a Daiwa Saltist. That will keep you in the guide lines you set. If you want to spend alittle more then get the Stella and the Saltiga but that will put you just over the set boundry.

You might want to check this reel out also for conventional.

Quantum Cabo PT conventional. It is new for this year and looks real good for jigging.

yeah that sounds about as best in the perameters for that price range.

i have a couple oti's , and a saragosa, and a saltist laying around, while they arent my main reels, they are very strong and capable of big fish.

i really like the feel of my oti rods. as far as reels, i really love my saltigas, lil out of what you are wanting to spend but i really like my saltigas.

The retail on them was much higher than $130if I remember right. $130 is more like what you can get them for now that the new one has come out or if you searched ebay.

As far as the new one...it has twice the bearings (8) as the old one (4), carbon fiber drags, and oversized brass gears. Sounds like it is better than the old ones...which I have 2 of and love them. Anyone want to trade 2 of the old models for 1 new model?
