jigging reel ?

Noticed several different jigging reels have no place to clip on a harness when fighting a large fish. When jigging large blue fin does one not need the benefit of a harness? If so is there a clip that you can add to your rod for conventional reels that do not have this feature? I am interested in jigging bluefin but have no experience so thanks for any help in advance.

most of the reels we use for jigging dont have lugs
alot of the fights are pretty quick
but the fish are usually 125# and under
tuck the rod under arm and rock
here is a pic from a trip we did..no belt no lugs,,55" fish

another pic..rod under arm

Paul thanks for the info. What lbs.flouro would you suggest using for jigging. i have 80lbs. PP mainline. In addition how long are you making your topshot and what knot are you connecting with? uni to uni? Do you tie the jig right to the leader or crimp? Thanks for your help.

we use PE jigging line 80#
and 80#-100# floro
about 4-6' long
uni will work
some do the PR knot
and we tie straight to jig

This works well on smaller reels:

It gives you harness lugs on reels that don't have them. It fits my Accurate 665 very well.

Thats a good option. I'm guessing the reason they aren't on more jigging reels/rods is that it would let you high stick too easily. If it was a better way, you would see Pony the Jigging Master with it is my best guess.

Paul,

I haven't used them much other than making sure they fit and the can work when I need them. Primarily I got the "Get Strapped" stuff for my kids. I am still on a mission to get them their first tuna (BFT or YFT).

The "biggest" fish I have caught some far on your OTI rod and the Accurate is a 110 pound blueshark. I whipped that easily in under 3 minutes, so I didn't need a harness.

If I can get my boys on a 50 to 80 pound tuna, then they will need help. Their arms are good for about 10 minutes. Then they give out.

I'll let you know when it happens (if the tuna bite ever really goes off up here this year... whine, whine, wnine...).
