We have been using the 200g riley blanks and they have been indestructable. I actually tried to break one on a fish over the weekend and it held together. I have an idea of what is next, but dont want to tell until its done. The one thing about the riley 200's is they are a little long. Something shorter would nice.

Jim how do you think the rod would preform if you cut 4-5" off the butt. I got a chance to feel ponce's 200 gram and it is great but I think it would be a little better if it was a tad bit shorter. I'm thinking about getting a 200 gram riley blank but I'm afraid if the but section is trimmed few inches that it will lose alot of backbone. Do you think a 5'6" 200 gram riley would still be able to withstand 20 pounds of drag, with a little room to spare.

Rember you are not limited to just cutting off the butt, you can take a little from each end or all from one depending on what you want as far as feel and backbone go.
