    jig protection advice

So my best producing jig by 3 to 1 over any other jig is this one

Now, my issue is that this jig is a real Chinese POS. After one or two fish the paint is all chipping off. I was wondering about dipping a new one into a can of high gloss spar polyurethane to have the finish last longer. Any thoughts or advice on this ?

A test: How about you buy a second jig and dip it. Fish that one and the one that is chipped and see what works best. I have seen Wahoo jigs that look very chewed up, but still catch fish.

It will not make much difference to the durability of the paints on your jig. Single part PU finishes designed for wood are almost always non water proof, and will fade/yellow quickly.
Now if you use a 2 part PU clear finish as found on cars and trucks, then you will be adding much more life to your jig. You can even even brush it on and it wil self level and dry quickly. It only gets harder and more durable the longer it sits.
    I hope this help.

I use spray on chip guard from the automotive store on my homemade stuff and it does prolong the spray paint finish.

I consider this to be my best all around jig as well. I've got some that have virtually no paint left on them but still catch their fair share. I'm going to buy some holographic reflective tape and put strips on the jigs. I think this might be a much more effective option than repainting.

I have used a guys homemade jigs with reflective tape and spray paint and the paint came right off and it was still catching fish . The action is more important than the finish but some of these ideas aren't bad to keep that finish on longer
