    INDICATOR Color-Coded Hollow Spectra

I saw this announcement on another board and tested the line. For anyone who wants pre-marked hollow line this might be good. PF

INDICATOR is a hollow, spliceable microfilament 100% spectra® line. Made in the USA, the hollow core design eliminates knots by using 100% splices for the strongest main line to leader connection.

INDICATOR hollow is metered with three permanent color changes every 10-feet, rather than the traditional 10-yards. This allows the angler much more precise depth control for targeting suspended fish. The pattern is yellow-red-green, ten feet each, and then repeats.

Simply count every third color repetition (30-feet) for ease in depth determination. The spliced end loop starts at the beginning of the yellow meter. Drop to the next yellow, you’re at 30-feet. Drop to the next yellow, 60-feet. Add one red, you’re at seventy-feet.
About a month or so ago, Basil sent me spools of the 60# and 80# lines for tensile strength testing. It was exciting to see that the value and strength of hollow-weave lines was coming to the jigging/metered-line part of the market.

My overall impression of the quality and feel of these lines was great. They are smooth, clear in their coloring and easy to splice and work with. After getting my hands on them, I wanted to find out just how strong they really were, especially the 60# product which seemed perfect for spinning reels.

First I made three samples of the 60# line for testing. Here are the results:

    1) lifted 92.5 lbs. broke when lifting 95.0 lbs.
    2) lifted 92.5 lbs. broke when lifting 95.0 lbs.
    3) lifted 100 lbs. broke when lifting 102.5 lbs.

Next I made three samples of the 80# line. The results were all the same:

    1, 2, 3) lifted 125 lbs. broke when lifting 135 lbs.

Since I tend toward being a bit conservative, for rough numbers I would say each line over-tests by about 50%, meaning you can think of them as having greater than 90 lbs. ABS for the 60# line and greater than 120 lbs. ABS for the 80# line.

From an entirely emotional point of view, it was exhilarating to lift nearly 100 lbs. of weight off the floor with the 60# line and then lift 125 lbs. of weight off the floor with the 80# line. These are well-made lines that are very strong.

It feels exactly the same as colored JB hollow-weave line, nice and smooth.

The next bite on a jig.
Looks like good stuff. Finally there may be another option on the market.
