    hopper rods

looking for opinions on these rods. im seeking a short (5'6" or less) parabolic rod that will take the pressure off my back while fighting jacks and grouper. let me know any good or bad experiences u have had please. anyone know if the rods are guaranteed? if anyone has the 4'10" and could let me know the distance from the butt to rod seat, that would be great. thanks in advance.

david, i called capt harry's a few weeks ago and never got a call back from them on the rods. they seem to be ok from the research, but i would look at those oti's for just a little more at bishops. have not used either, but the oti's are at least local that you can put a hand on before you buy. call me i have a buddy making me a custom right now. casey

I have the 4'10" Barefoot conventional 400 gr rod and i have whipped tons of real decent fish on it. I am told it is the same blank as the Hoppers are made on. I also strongly recommend you look at the OTI's. Fantastic rod and guarenteed for life.

i thought otis are not parabolic, but more of a fast action rod. i want something that will really flex so my back doesnt have to. spiney, do u have one of their shorter rods and if so what kind of distance is there from the rod to seat? thx.

    Hopper Rod

I fished a Hopper Rod from Capt. Harry's with Capt. Bouncer Smith from Miami. I was pleased at the backbone and the loading of the tip. Also, went on a party boat a while back and many of the regulars used the rod as it worked well for both live bait and jigging.

hopper rods are very parabolic and extremely well priced for the quality I am actually upset i left them off my thread. Great rods that are extremely easy on the angler but hard on the fish

Ive used them several times and thought they were much better than any other budget priced rod

There is 17" from the gimble butt to the center of the reel seat and then there is 42" from the same point in the center of the reel seat to the tip. The rod is 5' 2". I'm sorry for the late response. I am also told that the Barefoot rods are built with the same blanks as the hopper rods for half the price. I have the 4' 10" Barefoot and it is bad to the bone.

thanks spiney, thats another 2 inches longer butt than my 5'8" trevalla, which is not long enough to comfortably sit in the pit.
