madgaffer,
Which trevala are you talking about? Is it the F series?
Thanks
yeah i have the f series 5'8" xxh conventional, the butt section is too short for me. i feel like the reel is too close to my body when i have the end pitted, it makes it awkward to reel. the gimbal is very uncomfortable as well.
i also have the cheaper version (v series it think) spinning rod paired up with a saragosa 8k. the spinner is much more comfortable for me to keep pitted. its a bit longer and it also doesnt have the gimbal butt. it is a good setup for seabass and would probably be great to pitch baits to cobia. i am going to do a little blueline tile fishing with it as well.
i am a bit leary of buying a 50 dollar rod (barefoot). if in fact the hopper and barefoot use the same blank, it would leave me to believe that the hopper rod, being 100 dollars more may have better eyelets, gimbal, etc. anyone know if this is accurate?

Thanks madgaffer. I noticed that about the F series when I looked at them. I have the Barefoot and it is similar in action to my Trevala XXH spinning. I still think for big grouper and AJ's I would like to have something with more backbone, but for the price I am glad I have it at least as a backup.
Glenn,
Thanks for this vote of confidence in the Hopper Rod; especially considering your extensive jigging experience and the very high end gear you use.
I have:
Barefoot 4'10" 400g (conventional)
Hopper 5'8" 600g (conventional)
OTI 5'6" 600g (spinner)
Looking to add:
Hopper 4'10" 400g (conventional)
OTI 400g when its available.
Also this year I want to learn popping so I should also add:
OTI 7'6" 80# (spinner)
So far I have been very pleased with the OTI, Hopper, and Barefoot rods; when used within the range and application they are built for of course.
peace!
Ty
Good to see you planning for your next trip!!!
You'll be cranking away before long.
