Help on buying a Jigging Set-up
I have a budget of $450 for the reel and around $300 for the rod.I have been doing some recearch on the new OTI G3 rods and I was thinking of going with a 400g but the only thing is I dont like that its only 5'2" whereas the 300g is 6' . I think I like something a little longer like the 300 or even like the 600 which is 5'6".What size should I get, weight and lenght? As far as reels I am pretty lost because there is so many great light weight braid ready jigging style reels out there.I want a conventional reel and would like suggestions on both star and lever drag reels. For the star I was thinking Shimano Trinidad 40,Diawa Saltiga,or Penn TQ300. And as far as levers I was thinking Accurate Boss Mag 665, Avet Hx,Penn 16VSX, and I really love the Alutecnos Gorilla but its a little too much for me. Any help from all the jigging guys would be great. |

With a budget of $300 for the rod, I would go custom if you have the time to wait for it. Paul708 on this site makes some great rods for jigging. He can help you with the length you want your options. He also carries the OTI's so I would get in touch with him.

I see spring mt in your avatar. Are you near spring mount ski slopes? Or are you near Conshohocken given your login name? I work in trooper/norristown everyday. Let me know if you want to meet, i have a ton of different rods i could show you to get some ideas if you want. Let me know, later. I'll give you a rod for free if you take me out there with you. Cool man, gotta love the Perk Valley. You may be better of looking at some blanks. This way you can get the length you are looking for. For example the JM blanks i believe are 5' 10" so you can get the gram rating you want and longer than 5'.
The rods I'm making are 5' 4", and range from 250g-500g and also a BFT special that is 5' 6" with faster taper with 450g butt and 300g tip. Seriously I have JM, Jigstar, and my blanks, etc to let you feel if you want. |

the 300 is nice if it is strong enough for the fish you target. there are alot of good blank choices in your price range. give me a call, i am sure we can work something out. and daiwia's are on sale for another week ![]()
