The short report is three yellowfins and two tilefish. I'll put up the full report tonight and a couple of pics. I will say it wasn't the day I wanted, but a beautiful flat day on the water, so it was a win no matter what.

Here is the full report. We left Broadcreek in Wanchese at O'dark Thirty. Lovely pass through Oregon Inlet (as always) and headed for the point. The plan was to troll until we marked fish, then jig. We really never did find a good mark there, but did manage to pick up three BLT's on the troll.
Randy with a BLT ![]() We moved to another spot about 5 miles south. I insisted on trying to jig before we put the spread back out. It was a little tough with the swell, wind and tide all coming from different directions, boat positioning was tough. We put the spread back out and trolled for a few more fruitless hours. We also saw fellow SFC's the Succession there. ![]() I finally convinced everyone to try for tiles. We rode back North to the tile numbers. Bill and I jigged, Randy dropped bait. No luck that day on the jigs, but Randy got one on bait. After giving out, I put on a bait strip and dropped down, and immediately hooked this guy. ![]() We tried a few more spots jigging our way back to the beach, but were not rewarded. Ty and I were talking about Tuna teeth earlier in the week. I was taking the hook out of one of the tuna's when it did a death wiggle, leaving me with this love bite. ![]() Although there were not huge catches, it was still a beautiful day on the water. Coming back through the inlet, I got to see a 60' Carolina boat go sideways and take a swell into the cockpit. On an easterly swell, you have to surf it, or it get you every time. Jim . |
