I can take 150 - 200 lbs anytime. Besides, I release most of them. I might go down to NC during intermission while catching tuna, but it will be grouper jigging mostly and I go after AJ when I need to test my jigs.

Kil, the big reds are getting more stupid each trip. Readily taking the gold hammered anytime I drop to take a break from the meat stick.

Pete is joining us tomorrow. Should be a blast. You may be taking your tuna break sooner than later.

Ken, interesting thing with the last trip is not a single short fish. Not even a short Pinkie.

Mike, that is nice red grouper.
I have a tile fishing charter again with 22 fishermen on the Voyager next week and I like to go down to NC for grouper jigging after the tilefishing trip before bluefin bites start.

    Mike,

Nice catch. Which one of your rods did you catch that on?

Ty, that one was on RileyHawg meatstick. 6' solid glass

Here's one from a TT7230. Skinniest Red Grouper of this length I've seen. Should have been over 30lbs and he barely hit 25lbs. 8oz gold hammered jig. Picked of a few mid teens on it that day too.

The second was on a RR6850 deep drop setup that also works great for dropping bait for Grouper. Whole Boston Mack.

The third is a RR7220. Nice scamp. Generic 170g flatside pink/glow.

    Mike,

Thanks. Since this thread is a discussion about rod gram ratings, I am wondering what the action would be like on the RRTT6850 (5'8" 500g) cut down to 5'0" and how that would compare to your RRTT5840 (4'10" 400g) rod.

I just ordered an Alutecnos Gorilla 12 reel and it needs a jigging rod to do battle with Tuna this season :-)
