Any luck with poppers for AJ ?

My charter was green Kilsong. I had an 8 year old boy and dad on their first trip in the ocean ever. They were nervous about going offshore so we caught spanish on the troll and big sharks behind the shrimp boats. They had fun and the water looked like crap nearshore anyway.

I tried seveal different jigs in shallow water when I had no bites on jigs. After I got a hit on 8 oz hammered diamond jig, I stayed with the diamond jig and got 6 - 7 hits on it.

    Kil,

Did you use the 7.5 flat sided HDJ at all. I had really good sucess with it this summer. Also pull a few nice flounder off the wash outs on a few wrecks this year as well with it.

I used it first before I lost it.
I think there were some king mackerel there. I think 7.5 flat hammered diamond jig has somewhat different action from other diamond jigs. It draws more bites when we experimented for offshore seabass jigging wth 7.5 oz flat hammered diamond jigs and other regular hammered diamond jigs. The 7.5 oz hammered diamond jigs proved to be hot tuna jigs this year.

    Kil,

That jig is a jewel, I caught just about everything on it this year, I do like the action on that jig diffrent from the others. I also got a few heavier one's with a more torpedo shape to try out that worked pretty good in the deep for Snowy's and Reds.
Have you tried the any of the Latex tubing on the hooks??

I had some latex tubing hooks, but costomers took them all when they saw them at my ship.
They are popular among cod jig fishermen.
