Thanks!

Excellent, fantastic, awesome and all the other superlatives...this is the greatest FREE SEMINAR I have ever attended. It has answered questions I've been pondering, so now I'm encouraged to give it a try.

Thanks again, Gman--you win the prize--I don't know what it is, but you win it! Maybe it's the satisfaction that you have served your fishing brethren above and beyond the call of duty, and for that you get the Fishing Medal Of Honor!!!

Here is some more

Clarification on swivel set up for those of you who asked via PM

Ok the swivel in that original picture is a re inforced hammerhead swivel from APS made in Japan with a solid ring already welded on. I do not use them anymore I use a regular swivel set up as shown below

Getting a solid hookset on a jigged fish

The hookset ...

Most of the fish you are jigging are suction or ram feeders, which means they basically swim full speed open up and suck in whatever they are eating. They are not like snappers or sharks that will pick away at your jig or bait

This is really important

1. You must hit that fish hard to drive home the hooks because most times the fish will swallow the jig and the tension you are feeling is the fish holding the jig n its mouth. You must imbed the hook inside the mouth by driving it home or you will lose the fish so i tell everyone to jig through the strike

Example of a swallowed jig that bent in an AJ's throat if Arlen didnt hit this fish hard it would have spit it. That is a thick Shimano Flatside jig that was bent into a 90 degree angle by the throat of a amberjack

2. DONOT, I repeat DONOT, try to put the rod in your belt right away or you will lose your fish. this is the number one reason people lose fish. You must fight the fish under your arm after the hookset until it stops running. Any slack or angle you give the fish on the initial strike it will spit it.

Fight it like this and when you identify the hook is set the fish has stopped running easy it into your belt

Remember HIT IT HOME

For someone new to the jigging you have helped me tremendously, I'm hoping to apply my knowledge this season with success.

Thanks for all your help and for sharing this wealth of info.
