Will the 2 speed Shimano Tyrnos reels stand up to jigging in NC and VA for Yellowfin and AJs? How about the Calcutta 700 series?

Thanks

Great thread.

We picked up some Torium reels and Trevala rods a couple years ago, with about a dozen Shimano butterfly jigs.

I hooked up with a nice jack on the first cast.

Then, over the course of the next few trips, we lost all but a couple of the jigs. At about $$$ each.

I tried using flouro leaders, didn't help much. Finally lost the last of the Shimanos. Bought some other jigs, and started using the knottable coated braided steel for leaders. Stopped losing jigs, but was not getting many bites, either.

Trolling was producing, so we basiclly put the jigging gear away. Until now.

We dusted it off last Sunday and gave it a try. Nada.

SO, is it the wire leader?

We're heading offshore tomorrow with jigging and trolling stuff. When you all use the wind on leader, what size are you using? Have you noticed a difference when you use a crimp above the solid ring as opposed to just tying it?

Thanks!

I use 100lb jinkai. No crimps.

How did you do on the trip?
