Great thread gman!

One question - what butt length do you like on a spinning jig rod? From the pics, they appear pretty long.

Thank you Double D ... I don't have a lot of comparasin's but don't believe they are long. The length from butt to reel seat is 17" to actual reel stem is 19" on average

Boat: Anything with an engine.
Home Port: Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras
Best Catch: 220 pound Blue Marlin on HAND LINE.
I have a couple of questions. I'm going to try my luck jigging, I have a Fin-Nor Offshore OFC30L that I'm going to use. It says it can hold up to 365 yards of 40# Mono. What size Daiwa braid should I get for it? Also, I don't have any solid rings... can I attach using two split rings or directly to the swivel or wouldn't that work so well?

Thanks.

Best Catch: The next bite on a jig.
80lb Daiwa braid.

You can connect straight to the swivel, then connect your hook to the other end of the swivel. Use your split ring to connect your jig to the swivel.

The 330 yard spool? Or should I save up and get the bigger spool in order to fill the reel?

Glenn... thanks! One of the most informative threads I have seen! I started "experimenting" a couple years ago with this style fishing and have the conventional and later, spinning gear to show for trying to figure it out on your own. New comers to Vert Jigging... take this post to the bank, it is worth more than what's in your wallet!

(please keep this one up top... I'll be coming back to it many times)

...and to the jet-ski jigger in South Africa, maybe Gman can describe how he utilizes the coming pads/gunnels of the boat as a leverage point...

Thank you very much what part of Texas are you from? I basically lived and fished there for about 5 years. Worked in Sugerland area fished Freeport, POC and PA.

Ha Ha the best part on the boat is the coming pads, dig your knees in and lean back from that point. By days end our knees are wrecked hahhah
