    Giant BFTs

Well its time again and I am still haunting myself on the idea of catching a giant bluefin tuna on my jigging gear.

Right now there are a good amount of true giants, maybe too giant, they are 400-900lbs, but I think one might eat a jig. They might even eat a popper but that is not going to happen in my book. I like my jigs more, and hopefully it'll be under 500lbs.

If anyone would like to join me let me know. Only insane people would try I believe. Who thinks it can be done? We all talked it over and heard things like "it can't be done, its too dangerous, commercial guys will get pissed"....
I'm calling it horse shit and want to try it. If the weather is there I'm going.
    What are your thoughta???

I think that 250-350#'s are very doable, but trying for 500+#'s is only going to leave a jig or worse a popper stuck in the face of a great fish.
You could jig with a 30 or 50 though and fish with 150-200# braid, then if your good you would have a legit chance.

The next bite on a jig.

I think it will be easily acheivable. Just have to get in front of one.

We were doing 180-200lb in less than 20 minutes on spinners and saltiga 40's. I would want a little more reel, but a 500g rod should be able to handle 25-30lbs of drag all day.

Passing that sucker around would be fair play as far as I am concerned. Thats how I have always done giants in the past. Everyone gets a turn or 3.

Very true. I personally don't care if I get one or not, but it sure would be nice. My main concern is the fatigue put on the fish. If your using normal stand up jigging (not strpped in) then I think you are in for a long battle. It could be many hours. I don't think that is fair for the fish.
Yes the 250-350 range is VERY doable. 500 is a whole new class.

I agree, but my pride doesn't, but either way you keep more pressure on the fish with fresh backs and legs.

Gla to hear that there aren't any nah sayers yet. Last year when talking this it was all negative.

Personally, I think your wasting your time and tackle on anything over 500#...just my opine. Been there with 130's on stubborn midrange fish..500-700#. Backed around in circles one night for over 2 hours with solid gear and crew on a 625.

Footnote: Im not saying it can't be done, I personally think it would be great, but what if she dies on ya? You have no chance whatsoever with that tackle.
