Fishing Report Deep Jigging 4-8-2011 and 4-9-2011
Had Joey, Tetsu, Al, Joey and Dom down from NY with bookfishingtrips.com for 2 day of deep water jigging. Day #1 went to the north and started in 200 feet looking for the early tuna bite. It didn't take long 1st drift and Joey had a nice 15 lb Black fin. Continued catching and mix of AJs, Almaco, False Albacore and a few Black fin. Then we saw the tuna chasing flyers on top. This is a spectacular site. There were a few 60 lb Yellow fin mixed in with the Black fin. Dom caught his 1st Black fin on top water. Things slowed later in the morning so moved inshore a little. Tetsu caught and 25 lb African and Joey had a 50 lb AJ. The middle of the day the fish took a break and we tried several areas with slow action. Moved south a few mile and fished in 350 feet and final found some fish. We had constant action with Almacos. AJs, grouper (all released) and Black fin. Joey hooked a very large AJ at the end of the day but broke off.
Day #2 we headed south to try a different area. It was a long ride into the swell and then the weatherman had a surprise with still NE wind with 5 miles to go. Set up for the 1st drift and 4 angler on with small AJs. We had decent action between the AJs, Almacos, False Albacore and Banded Rudder fish. Then the sharks showed up and decided to have breakfast. We tried several areas but no AJs. Later in the morning the fish finally decide to eat and had a double header of Black fin and Jacks. The rest of the day we had great action with a mix of 250 to 300 lb sharks. The guys fought at least 10 to the boat along with all the other species. The weather continued to build and with 6 nice Black fin in the box for dinner we called it a day. Sorry do picts from day #2 I left the camera at home.
