Any input on this spinning reel? Holds a ton of line and seems like it would be a nice budget reel to get into spin jig/plugging

Jay I have had nothing but bad experiences with them jigging. I personaly broke one on my second drop with a jig and I have seen many do the same they arent made for that type of fishing

You would be better off with a quantum Cabo PT until they fix the issues. For live bait fishing or chunk fishing or maybe even casting they would be fine but the jigging motion seems to break them

Yeah I would have thrown the one I bought into the ocean but I was afraid to damage the eco system with it

Jay, we've sold a decent amount of these and so far our customers have really liked them. There was one issue about a year ago, one of our customers had a problem ( I think with the drag, and Fin-Nor replaced every reel we had in stock.

I believe for the right application these reels would be great I know many charter captains in Florida that use them and love them. Unfortunately for vertical jigging they havent faired real well

Maybe they have made modifications as Chuck said, so my info may be outdated. the ones that broke were about a year ago if not longer

Yeah Glenn if you still have them, I would call Fin-Nor and talk to them. Last year I dealt with someone in their service dept. and he stayed with problem and even asked me to keep tabs with the customer after the replacements.
I will say they were'nt used for jigging, but we're trolled for marlin and tuna.

220 pound Blue Marlin on HAND LINE.
I've heard this or a story on this already. Somebody who was using theirs for jigging talked to or emailed Fin-Nor and they told them that the reel wasn't intended for jigging. I wonder where it says that on the box.

    FinNor Jigging

I have a couple of OFS85s. I haven't had any problems with the gears, but I did have the bail roller screw fall out (and go to the bottom) on one while jigging about 200ft down over Marathon Hump. Fortunately, nothing hit on that drop

I've since put locktite on those screws. I think the jigging motion tends to loosen them.

Also, check the anti-reverse dog & spring. They were installed dry on mine and one of them stuck in the open position. That was a pain. I've since cleaned and lubed both so that will not happen again.

They disappeared off the market for a while when we were shopping... Then a couple months ago they began appearing and perhaps they have the problem solved. We got two for pitching but not getting silly with hammered drag and 80lb braid...We're using 30lb mono and they have been just dandy on big dolphin. I will say though that I'm surprised that one is showing rust on the bail it self even after good cleaning...The other is still like new...
