FAIL! my first trip for cobia

soooooo, went out for Cobia in Tampa Bay. Caught one 28in fish that i caught by casting a Sebile Stick Shad into a MONSTER group of Red Fish - the red fish wanted nothing to do it but the cobia below them went after it. He actually missed his hit and went clear over the stick shad and got foul hooked on his stomach.

my girlfriend landed it after my buddy got him on. He was only 28in so we had to put him back but the foul hook killed him. SUCH A WASTE!

    Me and the GF

Her trying to land her first big fish

if anyone has any help for me with catching cobia i have a thread in the florida forum. I would appreciate any help i can get!

    Tight Lines,
    Aaron

At least your girlfriend had a good time and thats what matters. I know the guys up here use those Sebile lures for bass and love them.

    Dude your boat is killer!!!!

Pics of flat water and curvey girls are always a treat.

    Thanks!

But now she tells everyone she caught the only cobia that day!

Hey great pics of your cobia hit in tampa bay. If the winds die I will give it a try off Naples Marco area this weekend with my son. Nice to see glass after past weekend. Doug

    STILL HERE.

THEY ARE STILL HERE, IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS WE HAVE BOATED OVER SEVENTY COBIA. SEVERAL OVER 50LBS. THEY HAVE MOVED OUT A LITTLE BIT, AT THE FIRST OF THE RUN WE CAUGHT THEM RIGHT PAST THE ISLANDS AROUND THE BOUYS AND TANKER SHIPS. NOW THEY HAVE BEEN OUT AROUND THE RIGS ABOUT 25 TO 32 MILES OUT. AS SOON AS YOU PULL UP THROW IT IN REVERSE REAL HARD AND THEY WILL COME UP BY THE TENS IN THE BOAT WASH. A BERKELY GULP 6 INCH GRUB OR A LIVE CROAKER WILL DO THE TRICK.

Good call!!! I was only able to get to FH13 but over every wreck i found schools of 5 or 6. i was by myself and went two for three with two on at once! mayhem. first was under and the second was big enough. the water was very clean and 75 degrees. the river water was very cold however.

not the best pic as i was by myself. and gaffing him while holding the rod was fun too!

I've heard they are on the nearshore artificial reefs off of AMI. Also, once it cools a little more, try all the markers on the shipping channel from the skyway, up into the bay.
