Best Catch: The next bite on a jig.
Dog Days

Seems like I am hearing that the epic trolling bite we had this year is tapering off some? Maybe some folks will start dropping again soon.....and maybe my foot will heal? Its been a long 4 weeks with no fishing, I know that much. I think it will be about 3 more weeks at least before I can go again.

I know there is still good jigging this time of year from 160'-400' with a good grouper bite in the deep. I got a call last week from a guy who said he scored a pomp at the 302, so they are still there.

I can't wait to get back out. I'm dying.

We went Sat and scraped up 5 Mahi and 2 Scamps. I love a 1/2 daytrolling and 1/2 day jigging trip, I think it is the best of both worlds. Only problem was I lost my brand new 300 gram flatside potroast, snagged on the bottom and couldn't free it. But, before it was lost it scored a Scamp for me a quick trip to Custom Marine will solve my problem.

Were you out there at Pee Wee's Playhouse, where we got the groupers during the jigging competition? That place is beyond rough. Those 400g Katana's were getting it done out there.

I would love a slab of fresh scamp right now.

I need a trip baaaddddd.

You need to swing on down to Destin while you are waiting.

We were not in the spot you guys got on-em, but within a mile or so. Everytime I troll out there I find new spots to drop on.

I'll give the 400gr a drop next time out.

Let me know when you have a free day and we'll see if we can throw something together.

If my foot wasn't busted, Icast then Destin on the way back would have been just right. I just don't have it in me this week.

Got these little piggies on the eastside in 120' 2 weeks ago. Homemade bucktails were the trick. Mahi just happened to stroll by.

Bucktails are one great lure for everything from bailing dolphin to catching winter striped bass.

A "true" bucktail is actually a little hard to bring in because of wildlife permits. Maybe one day I will try it. I just don't want to do one with faux fur.

I should be cleared to get back on the water August 15th. That's what I'm shooting for anyway.

Expect the first hurricane of the season to approach the NC coast on Friday August 14th.

...and last through Monday the 17th.
