Does anyone else use a jigging setup for chunking?

Recently got into vertical jigging. I have 2 setups for my boat, both accurate 665N on a seeker hercules 60xh. I know they are not idea chunking setups but I heardly every hear of anyone using them on the chunk. What do you guys think? Since I got these setups this year, I haven't use my 30's at night in the canyons. Why wouldn't you want to use a jigging setup for chunking?

Welllllll...if you want to get really technical. If you have a fast and furious chunk bite its often difficult to control the fish and keep them out of the running gear and other lines. On the flip side, jigging style rods often whip tuna faster and put less stress on the angler so it's a trade off.

    There's an argument for either.

Me personally, I am usually jigging on the chunk so thats what the rods are being used for

I agree. I would love the have trolling setups, chunking and jigging but can't afford all 3 right now.

most jigging set ups can be used to beat any fish regardless of the technique so you can use them

We're in the same boat (no pun intended). I just prefer to always be jigging while on the chunk since they often produce as well if not better than bait.

However, if the bite was red hot on bait i wouldn't hesitate to drift some bait with the jig stick.

guilty - i use my jiggin rods for everything but casting.

When i chunk using my jigging gear i get yelled at because the chunking purists i fish with say that i should be using mono line not braid - but i always run flouro leaders so i tell them to shut up hahahahaha.

But yea, live bait, dead bait, chunk, you name it, ive used my jigging rods for it. if its anything more than a flick worth of a cast i switch to my casting stuff.

any reason not to have to hold a 30w while fighting a fish!! i use my stellas chunking. just flip the bail over after the line stars ripping. havent had any problems doing so. i love the light weight and im a lefty so its plain easier all around.

ABSOLUTELY! The versitility of jigging rods is awesome. They can be used for everything from jigging, to pitchbait rods, to casting to breaking fish to dropping lures to pass the time.

I started doing it a few years ago when I was at the Jackspot off Ocean City. There were about 150 boats there and each boat had 2 flats of butterfish. I did the math on how many pounds were hitting the bottom and I then thought about the bigger picture. All of that bait, and the fish that were getting caught were the ones that came up for the bait. That left the smart ones that sat on the bottom looking up and eating the schmorgasboard that was raining down on them. So, I started dropping down to them to pass the time. We have had so much success at it that it is now an anticipated practice. More so than watching the bait fall thru the water column.
