In general I like braid... I think the issue was more with the circle hooks I was using rather than the braid. The mahi were grabbing the chunks and trying the get out of dodge before their school mates stole the chunk. Flipping the bail was the functional equivilant of a Bass Master TV hook set.

When I feathered the line... sort of like "just reel down" the hook set nicely in the corner of the mouth. It just took me a while to figure it out...

My buddy who was fishing with me (Cape Rover) was using a Penn 975 and J hooks. My hit rate was higher, but his landing rate was better. The J hooks were easier to set on fast running fish.

BTW, the best thing about this day was in the clear blue stream water in the middle of a sunny day, you could see everything that was happening like it was in an 40 foot deep aquarium.

P.S. Sorry about the thread drift.

P.P.S. I would certainly use my jigging set up for peligic chunking if it is "active chunking" the rod should be in your hand rather than in a rod holder. If you are just sticking it in the holder (like a diamond jig from the rigger) then just throw it out there on your 30's since weight doesn't matter. It is in the holder. But if you are trying to get your hook bait to fall with the chunks, the rod is in your hand. Then certainly a jigging stick would be great.
