    Deep Water Jigging

A little slow here lately so I thought I would see what everyone has done deep water jigging.

What is the deepest water you've jigged? What type of fish did you catch? Equipment used and pics would be great.

Me. About 400 feet, using 300-400 gram jigs on a Saltiga 40 PE6 Diawa boat braid and JM350 rod. Caught Red Grouper and Scamp.

The next bite on a jig.
850' for me...and touched bottom for snowies.

Although, at Oregon Inlet last year I went all the way to the knot on a Saltiga 40 and never touched bottom, using a 700g jig.

I would like to say I was only dumb enough to do it once, but I'm pretty sure I tried twice, because we were only in about 5-600ft of water.

    Fisherman,
This mite sound cruel or not true but desperado has reached a indescribable level her In Borneo, well at least where I am. After reading the posts and seeing the photos on the site. My hart eats shitt every time and I’m tell my self your not trying hard enough

    Deepest or where I usually try.. 50 > 100fa...

Why ? Because I think this is where the monsters live, and according to what I have seen the local boats catch, Rossy's, Doggy's, ambers, GT's and tunas man they are all here. There has to be some one down there that feels the need to eat some lead.

    Gear: Stella 20 000 with 80lb Daiwa PE8 and a Jigrex 400g rod

    Jig: 250 > 400g

    Colors: The lot

Fish caught: List is to large to write down. I'll give you a clue. It starts where it ends.

I'm not giving up yet, it's a painful experience but at least I'm burning heaps of calories and sweating bucket loads... Had a couple of hits and donated some jigs to the depths and some have left there calling cards but no blood yet.

Sorry the pic are still getting maid so I’ll put them up when the are ready…

Any tips from the Pro's will be greatly accepted and tried.

Deepest I've hit bottom is 350'-400' range. Caught scamps and AJ's using a Torium 30/PE 8 on Trevela XH. Only have gone that deep once though. I really want to do some Snowy fishing sometime but have never had the chance.

Plenty of good snowey fishing out of Morehead City starting around 450', but it get's much better when you drop off past 500.

There's definately a trend I see here. We are spoiled in the NE as I never drop to those depths mentioned. We usually fish in 20-30 fathoms, sometimes more but never go to the bottom. I may start doing it more for the tiles. We caught fish in 100fthms but never down low.

When we fished Hateras I remember the burn speed jigging 400ft and it sucked. I like going to the conv reels for those big jigs.

I was on that crew not too long ago!

415' is the deepest we've sent down jigs. Usually its 200 & 300' depths for us.
