    Deep Jigging

I have been doing a deep drop with an electric reel in about 600-950ft of water.
I read about you guys are jigging that far down.
I would like to try jigging that deep. How long does it take to get a jig down that far and retrive it?
How is it trying to jig that far down in a strong current.

For 850' it is about 3 minutes down and 5 minutes back up.

Sometimes the current makes it impossible, even with a 750g jig there are times that I don't touch. However there are guys right now jigging snowy groupers in the gulf out of Pensacola, Fl. They are using 200g jigs in 700' of water.

I think here the current would be a big problem. I am using a 9lb weight for the electric drop and you need to constantly move the boat to keep the line stright down.

I know the bottom fishing there is world class and somewhat untouched, at least by the sportfisher crowd. We have some boat from here in NC go there to winter fish. The drops that they have made with bait have been very productive and I see your area as a good jigging spot for the future.

    MH,

Deep water jigging can be rewarding but eat your Wheaties

and Do your deep drops early in the day so your Fresh.

Most of my fishing occurs inside of 100fathoms When theres current it's very very difficult to fish

If you know how to do power drift to compensate strong current or wind, you can fish 600 - 950 ft with reasonably light jigs.
Here are pictures of snowy grouper in 25 - 30 lbs caught on 10 - 16 oz jigs in Panama in 600 - 650 ft last week.
