Thanks so much for your insightful information, I think the Furuno has a vertical resolution of 320 pixels so I have no chance of seeing fish this size near the bottom when I am viewing the whole water column in 600+ft!!
Your information along with Sea Draggin's help is just what I have been wanting for years! I am sure with my new knowledge I can get my finder set up the way it should be.
This site is a superb source of information on my favorite type of fishing, only wish I found it a few years back!
Thanks again,
No worrys mate I'll certainly try to remember when I'm back home again and here we are all in the same pot man no strangers. Maybe different monkeys in different trees but all planning with the same toys. Only one request, If you ever wanna sell that sounder let me know. I’ve been trying to lay my hands on a backup machine for some time, but no luck.
Like Lawaia has said there are so many settings in this machine and for the most you have to pay with the machine and test it for your condition. Where I fish the bottom dose not drop that quick so using the bottom lock works for me. But here in the land of the volcano’s the bottom drops like a bomb from a plane so maybe, having your shift ON could be the better option.
Lawaia seems to be the right man to couch you on the finer setting. I've yet to read a more detailed explanation on sounders than that, Thanks Lawaia. Know I know a bit more aswell.
where in the philippines do you fish? i am also in the philippines, in the island of palawan. we also jig deep here as we have the same problem(dynamited shallower waters).
we start at 330' and jig down to 900'. i usually watch for structure/bottom rather than fish marks since i find that i can never catch the fish i see on my sounder.
Charl Thanks very much, I will look forward to seeing those pictures, very helpful of you. Biboy I am originally from Scotland, my wife (been married 15 years) is Philippine and we are in a small village called Guadalupe, 20K north of Maasin City is Southern Leyte.
I fish more or less just at my front door! and the sea here drops very fast! (see photo, the marks are in Meter's) I almost always fish around that huge drop off you see in the bottom right quarter of the screen, the land is on the top right, (guess I will be using that shift key a lot)
Can I ask where you get you jigs/equipement from? I have a hard time finding an online store that will deliver to the Philippines
I recently placed an order from a shop in California and had a hard time convincing the Philippine customs that it was for personal use, they said there was too much stuff for one man

I use a Simrad EQ 44 with twin 1000W transducers at 38 and 200 KHZ. This unit will give me the bottom, bait and fish definition to over 3000 feet. The transducers are large but this sounder puts out some power and the receiver is very the best I have seen. Here is a shortgilled roughraker caught in 2564 feet this summer on a Gulp! grub 6"
