First time with the japanese style jigging, first time offshore fishing on one of those big high speed center consoles (32 Yellowfin).
Sittin at work Friday morning about 11 when the phone rings. "We are leaving in an hour". Giddyup, lets go.
Leave the dock at noon, at one we are 40 off and the small fleet is into the baby bluefins.
I have my new setup with Saragosa 14000 and PE8 from Off the Hook, and JM 400 gm rod borrowed from Kilsong (thanks again Kil). First drop, 2 cranks off the bottom and its game on. That poor 40 pounder was at the boat in 3 minutes
After my second fish, everybody wanted to try the JM. We jigged about 2 hours, and 7 of 10 bites came on that rod. Is it the action or the speed? The other guys were using similiar jigs, but longer rods with Calcuttas and Trinidads. Much less tiring with the short rod, both jigging and fighting fish. Although it was tough to maneuver the fish around the boat.
I gotta say I'm hooked, that was alot of fun
Couple things I learned:
Cheap split ring pliers ain't worth spit.
Split rings can come apartLost a jig when the split ring opened up, but managed to get the fish
Need a different type of sea legs at 42 knots
