Why do some people troll around all day dragging 12 lines?
Why do some people like to bail 10 pound dolphin with 50s?
Why do some people like to troll ballyhoo while others like artificials?
Why do some people like flouro?
Why do some people come on to internet forums after chartering boats and claim to be experts (I'm not directing this to anyone in particular)?
Why do they make millions of different lures, rods, reels, boats, etc?
It's all personal prefference and it's all about what makes sense to you and how you relax. I for one couldn't imagine anything more boring than trolling around for 10 hours and cranking in an occational fish without a fight, but a ton of folks like it, so all the power to them.
Me, I've been bit by the jigging bug, and love the thrill of marking a fish, dropping down, enticing it to attack a piece of lead, and then fighting it on light gear. I love it when I get on a boat and see people snicker at the size of the gear...and I especially love it when I outfish them. I love it even more when they start asking to use my gear- it cracks me up.
As for the gloves...well...I'm a sissy boy and need them![]()
Let me start this off by saying that I am into the whole jigging thing. I am not my any means hardcore about it but I do enjoy it a lot as I do other types of fishing.
Now to the questions. There are some trends in the jigging "community" that I just do not understand, and considering myself somewhat a part of that "community", I am trying to understand so here they are...
1. - Why on earth do you need gloves to jig? I have done several all day jigging trips and never found myself wishing I had gloves on.
I work in an office 40 hours a week and type on the computer about fishing. I don't build up rough hands to well and gloves help keep the blisters down when I'm flippin tuna and AJ's in the boat. When you are grabbing that leader and flippin a 20 pound fish in the boat and your hands are soaked, that line may cut in to them. wearing is optional
2. - Why is it necessary to hold your rod and reel in your teeth while posing for a picture with your fish?
people pay way to much for their rods so they better show them off
3. - What is the infatuation with catching Amberjacks all about? I understand the fact that they get big and pull hard, but after you've caught a few AJ's you've pretty much caught them all. I myself enjoy catching one or two but after that they become a nuisance, especially when you're grouper, tuna, or pompano fishing.
I go fishing to catch fish and have them pull back. I am 23 years old and strong and like it when I am wore out from pulling on fish. AJ's can be a by catch when targeting other fish but there are many things that can be done to help discourage them. Read on here and ask enough and you will figure out all the ways as well.
4. - What is the deal with licking the eyeballs of fish? Maybe an inside joke or something but I'm very confused on this one.
This is for people who don't have a woman
These are just a couple questions I find myself wondering about occasionally and hoping ya'll can help enlighten me a little bit.
That's all I got to say bout that
