Here are a few pics from my stint in CR a couple of weeks ago. I would've posted up sooner, but the heat and humidity finally put my old computer out of commission.
Overall the fishing was a bit tougher than usual...which essentially means that it was pretty good rather than just plain great.
El Nino's got the water up around 88, 89 by mid-day...hard to do much outside of the early morning, late afternoon and the tide changes. I set a new personal record of drinking 3 gallons of liquid in one day...not a drop of which was fermented in any way.
Guillermo with the sushi course
First time jigger, first drop...seriously! Does anyone know what kind of grouper this is? It had a thin light blue line on the edge of the pectoral and tail fins.
happy client with first saltwater fish
fished the river one afternoon...got a couple corvina
my biggest bluefin trevally to date
this guy could barely work a rod a year ago...works big poppers and big roosters with ease now
first pargo of the day
cudas don't get much bigger here...fell victim to the popper as well
tasty mac...also hit a popper
plenty of nice "jurels" around to keep the excitement up
it's now 9:30 and 93 degrees...it's hot as hell this time of year
this dogtooth, not to be confused with the cubrera, ate a 150g jig at a brand new mark. We lost another big bottom dweller here shortly thereafter.
when nothing else works you've gotta go back to the bait
each day brought an additional 3 or 4 chicken roosters...must be a dry season thing
am missing pics from one of the more productive days this trip...some nicer AJs, (40 lb. +) were cooperating on jigs and poppers, and we managed 2 big mahi (poppers) offshore as well as 2 nice sails (trolled heru ulua rigged with assist hooks in shotgun) as well. If you haven't tried this yet, do so...a few seconds after putting it out and admiring the sweeping "S" action of the lure my friends and I looked at each other and said "well, it's only a matter of time before that gets hit"....5 minutes later we had a 130 lb. sail on the line.
