Cooler Size

Can you guys tell me what size coolers you typically take on seabass trips. Silly question maybe, but I have a trip on the Atlantic Star coming up shortly and originally thought I would take a 54qt.igloo but if limits are possible that may not be adiquate for fish and a small amount of food. Thanks.

a 72 qt Igloo is a common size cooler and should be enough. Use you're own judgement and maybe think about putting your food and drinks in a separate smaller cooler. Good luck.

Yeah, a 72 qt will do the job, but be realistic, will you eat that much fish or be able to give that much away, do you freeze fish or only eat it fresh? That can be a lot of meat, so bringing a 50 might keep you from getting over zealous if you aren't a big fish eater or have a good home for the fish meat. If the fishing is good, which it should be, limits are very possible.

coolers

Thanks for the response. I am a big fish eater & freezer (where seabass are concerned ). I think I am going to go with a 54qt. and an insulated bag for overflow. I am researching
nonmarine insulated bags they seem to be alot less expensive than "fish bags" but of the same quality.

you can never have to much ice when heading offshore!!! i have a 162 igloo that would be good for a seabass trip including food and all.

I have a big 120 quart ICY TECH cooler and that has to be one of the best investments that I have made. It will keep ice and fish cold for ever!! It's strong enough to sit on as well. I am going to cover the top with some sort of marine board and make a cutting board top for it. It will be the last cooler that I purchase for a long time...my next buy will be one of those insulated fish bags..for those big ones!!
