What's your cup of tea?
It's both for me, but that doesn't really help.
The question is.
If you were getting a custom jigging rod w/ reel, which would you choose?
You'll see where I'm going with this VERY SOON in the Boys and girls club forum.

Conventional
Spinning

personally I only use spinning. Its the easiest way for a beginner to learn and to be honest the reels offer superior drag performance, easy of use and castability when needed.
But its really a personal preference
i started off fishing with a old boat rod my dad had many years ago. we just droped to bottom and draged bait.
my first purchased rod was a spin rod for freshwater.
i was able to jig and pop and work spinners with it, all mostly fresh water.
then as i got a little older i fished more salt water.
and switched back to conventional for draging bait and bucktail jigging.
mackrel jigging, and cod jigging.
i used a diawia 400H for years.
then swithched to calcuttas and saltigas.
and really never used spinners for much more than light saltwater,
stripers, mahi,ect.
now over the past few years as spinners have gotten lighter and better drags.
i have gone back to the stellas for spinners.
but overall i still like conventional reels and acid rods a little better.
i think when underarm fighting a fish, i get more support using a conventional,, the way i hold it.
I personally use both because if one lifting arm gets tired then I switch to the other. I use either equally as well. I started out using spinning rods with my Dad at Sebastian night snook fishing and learned to use a bait caster at about 14. So it doesn't matter to me. But I would have to say spinning would be easier to learn first.

Ditto!
Gman seems to be the master of jigging so I just bought a spinning outfit just for jigging.
