Don't know about the benefits, but I just like the feel of the Conventional set up in my hands better.
I also feel that I have more power and can thumb the spool during the fight easier with the conventional during the fight to put on some additional pressure on at key moments.
although i am not really big on the new style jiggin "YET" i would like to say i am more of a conventional guy.. been using spinning rods more and more and starting to like them also but i dont think you can go wrong..
some of the new spinning rods have some great power along with the reels.
the thing i usually tell friends it to grab one of each.. when you hold a conventional in a belt it is all using your left arm and cranking with your right hand..
if your using a spinning rod you are holding with your right and cranking with your left.
that all depends on which hand you reel with but if you are a righty then that is the norm.
tie a large 5 lb dead weight on the end of the line and hold it in a holster for 5 minutes.. whichever then feels more comfortable is the way to go!!!
good luck and i am sure paul from jpr and sea draggin and the rest of the pros will chime in here!!
i have been fishing conventional for years.
i am just comfortable with it,
you can also lean the rod on the rail or gunnell for support
with the spin you wont cut your grips up on a "highend" rod.![]()
I like the conventional better...but I have both because I can switch from one to the other as I need for breaks. The spinning is easier to use I think because you don't have to lay the line on the reel as with a conventional, but it is very nice to let the rod rest on the gunnel when a big fish is running and pulls the rod down there anyways
My favorite is my accurate 270. That thing is small and light, built like a tank, and has tremendous drag capabilities with their twin drag system. I want to get an accurate 665XN (extra narrow) also.

Use both... Have a couple Fin Nor OS rigs (spinning) and a couple rigged with Avet 6.3:1 MXL's (conv) all with braid...
Like them both, but I do like the feel of the spinning rod to detect light bites, or strikes on the fall (less apt to backlash if a novice is on the reel) but the ability to handle a larger fish with the Avets is a little cleaner in my opinion.
Still getting used to the egg beaters, but both are nice and I doubt you could go wrong with either.
Conventional all the way....that being said, I just went to the dark side and got a Daiwa Expedition spinner. Hope to use it right after the shows.
I primarily use conventional, but switch off to spinning when my jigging arm gets tired, and then back and forth. That way I can continue jigging almost all day.
I only own 1 spinning outfit and that is used for casting Bucktails. All other fishing I do with Conventionals.
Use both here but always lean towards spinning. I can really get that jig to dance and and up with more bites using it. Conventional is nicer for really big fish and its a chance to change up the jigging muscle. But for true jig dancing you can't beat a spinner outfit.
