As far as one exploding, that isn't really the way any of these reels act when the anti-reverse fails. You'll start to see some backwards play in it, and as it gets worse you'll have the spool slip backwards with a grating noise when it is under heavy loads. This slip starts out being very quick and will get worse and worse as the anti-reverse fails. If replacing the bearing doesn't bother you then fish it, pay attention to what the reel is doing and replace the bearing as soon as you get any indication that it is going. If you keep fishing it, eventually the sleeve will start slipping on the plate and you'll have to replace the sleev and possibly the plate, and that will start to get pricey.
