i really dont know about design flaws. in saltigas.
but they do seem to work well.

    and they are under 400
they may be something to look at.

I am starting to think that no reel is gonna last very long in my hands so I might as well get used to it! [/QUOTE]

HAHAHA you is hell on tackle pete!! you should be a tackle tester for Daiwa or somebody, if theres a weakspot or design flaw, you'll find it. hopefully I wont have any more probs w/my saltiga, but I havent put it to the 80#+ aj's yet. we will see how that turns out!

I like saltiga's but had mine in the shop 3 months old and they said the drag was worn out..........i didnt catch enough monsters to justify but they had it back to me immediatley under warranty. im having good luck w/accurates so far, i like the way the drag feeds smoothly. I might try a fin nor on whitelakebucks advice, he definately puts them to the test.
I'd have to agree with seasea about the accurates. The ones I have used are great. I have used an accurate 270 on some AJ's pushing 70lbs and it performed flawlessly. The drag was super smooth! I've only used it on one trip so I can't attest to the longevity of it when tested with jigging...but it seems to be built great! I've also thought about getting a Fin-Nor and trying it out...maybe I'll pick one of those up soon and try it out.

Looking at these pictures, I also remember that the drag was sticky out of the box. So I greased them up with Cal's drag grease and the drag has been flawless since then.

The Fin-Nor would be a "budget" option that will need a little TLC out of the box to get the best performance. With a budget of $400 I would def. look at the Accurates, Saltigas. etc.

thanks for taking the time to post the pics wlb. those reels look very similar on the exterior. interesting it lists the 30l as having a 35 lb drag max and 30h as only 23 on tackle direct. wonder if that is a misprint.

Has anyone heard news of the Jigging Master Reels or have any pictures of the guts yet?

My experiences have been different than some of the post in this thread. In my hands the trinidads and saltigas held up better than the accurates. In fact the accurate has been at the factory 3 times for repair within one season. It seemed every time I got it backed and fished it...it broke the next trip. The difference however in my experience is the accurate hasn't stopped working/seized totaly. I've seen Penn Torques, Saltigas, and Torium completely sieze.

What I don't understand is how my Saltiga Spinner and Stella take fish after fish, trip after trip, salt spray after salt spray and work like a gem?
My conventionals need constant maintanence and the spinners get greased once a year if that and a fresh water rinse every trip.
    Sorry rant is over.

    Buc,
I have not had that pawl failure yet, that's pretty impressive. The antireverse bearing has a plastic sleeve in the Daiwa and the Shimano. Alan Tani said he had swapped one for the other in that link you pointed me too. If you don't upgrade to carbontex and don't fish these reels with 18 lbs of drag or more, and don;t have a drag stick they should be fine.

I've got a Torsa 30 now, but I haven;t had the nerve to tear it apart yet.

Some people have had some really bad luck with Accurates. I was reading a post over on deepjigging where people have reported the same problems you have experienced. But it seemed that the problem was with the larger reels. I was under the impression that the smaller 870, 270, and 197 reels were good.

My Saltiga spinner has been my best purchase to date. Absolutely trouble free! Only a rinse after each use and I have nothing to say but good things about it! I now have 2 years on a Saltiga 20 conventional. To this date, I have done nothing to it but wash it off. It is time for a drag greasing and clean up though.

IMHO if Daiwa made a Saltiga 30T with 30lbs of drag instead of 22 ........ that would be a PERFECT reel for me. But hey... I can dream right?

I realize that the Saltist has the sleeve, but I am wondering about the Saltiga. I have never opened mine up!! I guess that is a good thing right? Have you seen the ANTI on a Saltiga? Does it have the plastic sleeve also?

Torsa 30 is an awesome reel!

I called Fin-nor the day I saw those reels in SWS. The low speed (4-1) have 30's lbs and the high speed (6-1) have in the 20's

I have been waiting to see the Quantum Pete is talking about. The free spool issue would keep this reel from being a jigging reel as you need 20 oz to hit bottom in 300'. I would bet someone has bearings to replace those bushings.

David, if you decide to go the Fin-Nor route I may know where I can score one for $130

Darren, I have had my Torsa apart a couple times... Not many (jumping) parts.
