I may be wrong..as I have been before, but I think you guys were being abit deceitful.

WHOAA NOW. You can't expect someone you don't know to give you the whole enchalada. So, you had a bad day. Chum had a better one and I'm sure someone else did better. They outfished you. Get over it.

I don't give it all away. Most everyone else is the same way, especially with folks they don't know. I have fished next to boats on the waterfront on the 750. The next day when someone asked them where they were they said 400's. Fishermen = competitive = deceitful. Fact of life.

I think you should take a step back on this one and quit while your behind. Maybe apologize and move on.

I appreciate the report here and welcome it and it sucks that you have turned the report in this direction.

Here is the deal: We set out jigging for Blackfins the fishing was tough that day. When we were leaving the dock I noticed one of the charter boats had their carcasses in a barrel in the cockpit. That right there tipped me off, I could only think of one reason they had those still on board; to help keep the fish interested once they found them. When we were out there jigging I saw that same boat throwing chunks over to get the fish feeding. We did the same with some of the FAs we caught and the fishing improved but only with more FAs. It wasn't until later on in the day when we moved up to the 250 in 50 fathoms did the Blackfins show up. We did the exact same thing while jigging on marks, we threw over chunks and the Blackfins came up, we could see them eating the chunks. While the crew was jigging and catching... I was rigging a couple circle hooks on 60 lb fluorocarbon and floated out some chunks and the fish cooperated with a double and two single hook ups on the chunk and we caught three jigging.

I would have been a fool to not quickly set up a couple chunking rods and take advantage of the situation. It was a tough day of fishing all around. Back at the dock I only heard of one other Blackfin being caught by the charter fleet. We had a great day others did not, that's fishing. Fishing success can be being at the right place at the right time, your day can be made in five minutes.

We turned three jig bites into seven fish by floating out some chunks on circles.

I went back and read your replies and I... me... personally did not answer to anyone while the fish were biting, perhaps someone on board answered you while the fish were biting and perhaps that person had caught one on a jig, I honestly don't recall. The Blackfins were maybe biting for hour or an hour and a half and that hour or so was chaos trying to make the most of the moment. The FA was the secret no doubt and I will certainly employ that tactic in the future and I suggest you do too.

When getting down to the brass tacks and purism of jigging our jig fish were caught jigging not fishing jigs tipped with FA. Our chunk fish were caught chunking. In the first picture you can see the assist hook hanging straight down from the weight of the jig, we didn't photograph every fish again it was chaos. Also in the beginning of the bite, until I could get the circle hooks rigged we took a jig off and floated a chunk out on the assist hook in the third picture you can see the assist hook, the solid ring and some FA.

Additionally as I think about this I believe that up until we actually put a hook inside a chunk and floated it out we were chumming not chunking. To me chunking is a method of catching fish and chumming is a method of attracting fish. We were jigging while chumming and then decided to increase our catch by chunking some up.

If someone onboard told you we were catching the fish on jigs I can assure you this was not to mislead you, remember, when the bite was on it was chaos. I am not like that nor are the people I fish with we would not do that.

What boat were you on I remember the blue 26 Regulator friends of mine, the white Hydra Sport "Codfather" Sunny Hwang another friend of mine, a dark blue CC, the tan Aquasport "Carolina Melody" Danny Kee another friend and perhaps one other white boat.

We were in the blue cc, the one in the back ground of the second picture. We were there when you guys caught the first blackfin, then another boat showed up.

Do Work said that they were catching on the jigs. He told Carolina Melody the same thing. It is what it is. We were chunking with the FA's but didnt put out a hook in the chunks. Even though I knew better. On the other hand if you guys were next to us and it was the other way around I would have told what to use expecially since I didnt have to get on the radio to do it. Live and learn, that's fishing. We'll catch em next time, Joey don't worry.

Sorry bro about your jig. I think it is still on my buddy's boat.
After all the mayhem of pulling off 7 black fin on jig bites, landing two 33lbers we got on chunks, and untangling the two jigs from the boat you were on that was wrapped around the AJ we landed things were just a mess and it slipped our minds.

We stated chunking when somebody on their boat yelled “keep throwing chunks” plus they had two rods out dead drifting chunks while they were jigging…During that action (which maybe lasted 45minutes we went 0 for 7 black fins that we hooked on jigs and 2 for 2 on chunks. Meat on hook definitely saved the day but it’s not my preferential way to catch them. If we had better luck keeping the fish on jigs would have clearly out fished chunks on the boat I was on.

I am not sure you can find anyone on this forum who is more open and helpful when it comes to fishing as Chumlord. Check out his website which is full of podcasts to assist other fisherman learn the rigging that he employs to help them catch more fish. Calling people liars definitely isn’t the best way to establish a “friendly ear on the water” so it might be in your best interest to vent your frustrations about not catching fish in way other than blaming someone else.

Hope to see ya back out on the water again. Maybe next time all the small boats can get up in a giant chumming slick and show the charters what we learned.

Well put Jrzrider........I have fished with Chumlord MANY times and he is HANDS down one of the most BLUNTLY honest...not always his best attribute.....guys I know.....He goes out of his way to share his knowledge.....
