    Carrot Stix

First off, I know very little about jigging, but I have a Torium 30 sitting in the box and I've been itching to get a rod for it.

Anyway, I was at Bass Pro last night and ran across a deal on the Carrot Stix jigging rods. I typically stick with Shimano, but these were marked down to $120 from $180. There were several models on the rack, but I ended up walking out with the XXH (Don't know all specs off the top of my head, I'll add later).

This morning I googled everything I can think of, and can't seem to find any info or even a place that sells these rods online. It feels like good quality and aside from the terrible color, the difference from the Trevellas is, the butt has a gimble and there is about a 6" gap in the foam I guess for ergonomics or something. Also, the Trevalla has a "trigger" under the reel where as the "carrot" doesn't.

Any input is appreciated. I think the carrot has lifetime warranty like shimano, but have zero experience with them or jigging rods for that matter.

    Thanks,

    Jesse

From what I have seen with there inshore rods, I would not get one. What I was told is that they are not good when the rod gets bumped or dinged on the side of the boat, they tend to break quickly after that.

i have one. I like them alright. My kids gave me one for father's day over a year ago. when they bought it, it had a over the counter replacement guarantee. I broke(my fault) mine a little over a year after i got it.

E21, the maker of the rod, changed their return policy a couple of months before i tried to get mine replaced. the new policy has a flat rate charge of $39 and you have to ship it to a place in New York. It took almost three months to get a new one.

I heard one of their top guys defected and started making his own rods because the customer service was so bad at E21. I'm not sure the company name, but their rods are white and they are endorsed by Duckett.

you are right on there not be much out there when you google it. when i was trying to get the information to send the rod back, it was just their website and their hype.

With all that being said, the few people I know that have them, love them. I can't wait to try my replacement. It is 7'10". I will be able to throw a super spook out of sight.

What are you fishing for? The best inexpesive Jigging rod is the Diawa Saltaga series.
I'm pretty sure they run about the same price range.

I have heard of the carrots breaking under pressure, hearsay so take it for what it's worth.

I am not a professional (though I am somewhat acquainted with a few self-labeled "Pro's") in the jigging world, but in my circle of friends and even the circle of fisherfolks outside of this, I know of no one using carrotstix for jigging. Trevalas would be the way to start IMO.

Well, I'll mainly be fishing the gulf for AJ, Snapper, Grouper, and hopefully some Tuna. I have one of the lighter Trevalas (20-50#?) and it seems to be a little too light duty for even some of the jigs I have (hand-me-downs). What is a good fit for the Torium 30? I have a large spool of 50# PP just sitting around too.

Also, did you mean Saltist for jigging?

Point taken. I plan on taking it back for a refund when I get a chance to make the trip again. I'm usually not spontaneous, but I rarely see fishing tackle marked down so much.
