is this the main type of jig everyone uses when jigging?
some style of jigs work better for some fish..alot of tuna guys out here use the hammered diamond jig with great success, that would be your "main" jig. cheap and they work. i havent liked the long thin ones..but have seen guys catch with them.
The old diamound jig works good, but last trip out we were using both and the knife jig worked alot better.Color didn't matter at all.Now we use 12 and 14 oz jigs for deep drops of over 200'.We traget aj's and tuna with them.
The regular diamond jig from 4 - 10 ounces work very well.....but you have to change the hooks over to 4x,use heavier split rings, and solid rings.
I have all types, and on any given day, they all seem to work....pink is a hot color.
Look for good deals on them, from many sites.....although the "butterfly jigs" are very nice, there are other more economical alternatives, that will do the same thing.....
In the NE, most guys use hammer diamond jigs from 8-16oz. Also, butterfly jigs in squid color have been productive. I'd recommend having both onboard, some days they prefer one over the other. Also, braid slammer jigs have produced, but I like the former 2 better. We jig with a reel that can hold roughly 350-400yards of 80lb hollowcore and a 6'6" trevala jig rod. We use a 50ft topshot of 80lb floro when chunking, although 80lb momoi mono has worked when the bite is hot. This makes jigging fun, without wearing out the angler.
We have always used j hooks on our jigs, but may experiment with circles since I know a lot of guys have been having a lot of luck with them this season.
i use stingsilvers for rock fish..
4 oz.......
