Braid question for the jiggers here!

Well, the time has come to spool my Saltiga for Tuna jigging!! I got the Carbontex drags and upgraded bearings installed, so it is time for line! I am looking for a metered line to tell the depth. I am considering the Daiwa Boat braid in 80# and the Suffix Metered 80# stuff that just came out. OTI is a little pricey for me, over $100 for 400 yds! I know the Daiwa is thinner, limper and smoother, and I heard that the Suffix has better abrasion resistance, but is a little thicker and stiffer. Which is better for jigging for tuna? Thin, limp, soft, or a little thicker with better abrasion resistance (maybe due to larger diameter?)

The next bite on a jig.
For tuna you will want multicolor line, so you can drop it to the depth you are marking the fish.

Recently out of Hatteras, folks that dropped to the bottom got Aj's. Folks that stopped 50' off the bottom got tuna. This info came from a jigging report on FPT and I found it very informative.

Yeah, just wondering if I want thicker/more abrasion resistant and stiffer, or softer and limper braid for jigging, or does it not make a difference?? Gotta be metered/colored for depth purposes, so that rules out the JB hollow core 80 I was going to go with.

I don't know about the stiff, thick ,limp, but I do know suffix catches fish. I think once you break in the line, it will be everything all the others are. I don't think its that's important.

$125 for 400 yds of 80 of the OTI. The Daiwa and Sufix both would run around $60 to $70 for the 400 yds. Is the OTI worth nearly twice the price???? Plus there are a number of shops near me that can spool my reel nice and TIGHT, which is necessary and they would carry the Daiwa and Sufix.

I personally use Jerry Brown and Tuf-Line XP and don't give a rip what color it is. I don't see any use for the price difference for the colored line. I jig in rhythm.

I want the metered stuff so I know how deep I am so I can drop back to the same depth range as when I hook up.

for tuna fishing you have an advantage having colored line to gauge depth. I have tried YKG, OTI, Varivas and Diawa boat braid. Of all of them I honestly feel the Diawa is the thinnest, strongest and most resistant to burring and cutting off

I have re-spooled all my reels to use the Diawa boat braid after abusing the line off NC amberjack fishing and I have been thrilled with the results
