    Braid to mono knot problem

I have been using the improved bristol, knot holds well, never had one slip. But the bulky knot is knocking the rings out of my tip-tops Generally using 80 lb mono or fluro

What knot can I try that holds just as well with a lower profile? Finger cuff is not an option as I do not have hollowcore on most

The ultimate heavy jigging knot is of course the Page-Rankin

at a minimum if you don't use it, build a ramp of whipping line up at the knot to minimize the impact as it enters the guide.

IF the rod is not a throwaway, consider a larger end tip and get a high dollar tip guide.

If all else is not possible, put a plastic ball ahead of the knot and stop winding there.

Successful jigging is dependent on being able to wind the leader onto the reel, so bite the bullet and make the changes necessary,

Thanks bud, PR's are tied. Luckily I had a bobbin and a couple rubber-jawed vices, made it quick and easy

Not the prettiest knot at the nub, but as long as it holds...

I have been using the 14 turn Bristol for a while now and not have had any problem with knocking the guides around. The main reason is that my rods that I use have oversized top guides. That was one lesson I learned from the guys at CMS when discussing tuna rods. May be worth considering as that knot as you said has not failed yet especially on 80 - 100 pound fluoro/mono.

Have you tried the Sebile knot?I have had lots of success with it on big bluefins if you are worried about how tough it is.. I dont use wind-ons anymore and it doesnt create any bulk. Its in the video section if you want to look it up

With a solid braid main line why not just tie a bimini twist in the solid braid to form a small loop and then simply attach the windon leader of your choice via a loop to loop connection. 100% strong, slim so it wil go through your guides easy, and easy to change out leaders.

Too lazy to make 'em, too cheap to buy 'em

The topshots take alot of abuse and are changed almost every trip. Making dacron loop windons seems like alot of extra effort when a 5 minute knot will work

I'm more confused now than when you started

You must change either your knot, your guide(s) or both, or use windons. You say you say you are too cheap and too lazy to do windons.

I sure hope you are not after significant fish such as bluefin because it requires a dedication to excellence to expect landing one.

Also you mention TOP-shot which is completely different problem that does not belong in the jigging section.

Once you learn to make them a windon leaders only takes 5 min to make and costs only pennies more then just a piece of Mono or floro of the same length. It is also a 100% connection were as any knot will not give you the same. I do not used dacron i use hollow Spectra it is small smoother and stronger.

No offence but lazy and cheep are not what you need or want to be if you are serious about catching serious fish like tuna on spinn and or jig gear. If you only do it once in a while the costs are minimal.

Thanks guys, I got what I need in the first response. I was just looking for an option for a lower profile knot, the PR suggestion was a good one and I re-rigged accordingly

    Yes I am jigging bluefins
Yes I have caught plenty on my gear, up to 200# class
yes I know they get bigger than that
no I have not hooked one bigger than that on jigging gear
No my rods are not throwaway
yes I know the difference between top shot and wind on leader
    No my knots dont pull
Yes I have high quality guides
    yes I have appropriate gear
no I do not want to use loop to loop windons.
yes I know how to make em and have used them in the past
no I cant make one in 5 minutes
yes I was kidding when I said lazy and cheap, hence the smiley

    any other critiques?

Tyson - I'll look into the Sebile, thanks
