    Bought JM PE5 Reel

I just picked up a Jigging Master PE5 reel.

Out of the box I am very pleased with the reel, but the true tests will come when I finally get a chance to fish it. The reel seems very strong and compact. I really like the size and design of the reel. After fishing many reels for jigging, I should be able to assess it fairly. To be honost almost every reel has failed in some manor, some major failures and some minor details.

For those looking for info on the reel.
It holds over 300 yrds of Jerry Brown 65lb solid core. I have found that line to be super strong so it should hold up to some large size fish. It feels light on the 350g rod I put it on, and comfortable to the hand, even with the reel clamp on. It feels perfect for many jigging applications such as AJ, small to mid size tuna, just about any type bottom fish, and even jigging migrating coast fish like stripers, blues, hardtails, etc. The double paw back up anti reverse is a bit loud if that bothers you, but for me it is a reminder of durability. The Avets have a single paw concept and I never had a failure of slippage on those reels, so the JM should be much stronger. Anti reverse bearings have been an issue for many reels under strain including my Accurates, Shimanos, Daiwas, Etc. The other thing I like is that compared to Avets, there is no slop in the handle while jigging, and I'm assuming the bearings are better then found in the Avets.
Kilsong has landed under200lb class tuna on it so that should give a good idea of its capabilities.

I'll give a better write up after some testing.

PS The drag seems like a train stopper

Yes, they certainly are a very well designed reel, mine arrived last week and cant wait to give it a test on our NZ kingfish. I have used the PE4 model and it was great but the PE5 is quite a bit bigger.
Will look forward to your impressions on the JM reels and will add mine also.BTW I have put mine on a Synit 333 Grey Ghost acid wrap rod. Gman will be testing these rods shortly so will also be good to get his opinions on these NZ made rods.(they are good)

The prototype rods are very nice.
It seems it has Jigging Master rod's action, but a little softer.

I thought the same thing Kil, they are a tad lighter in weight maybe.
I will have the boat up to the Cape for Fri-Sun, and the wether looks decent for 2 of those days. Hopefully I'll get in some good testing. I'll let you know about that rod Kil, and hopefully get a chance to use the JM reel. I'm hoping they respond to jigs as well as they have been to the plugs.

It looks you can get out Fri and Sun though Sat is questionable. SE corner has been hot before the blow.
I hope you guys land a 300 lbs on poppers.
I might see you on Sunday as TV crews from Korea are fishing with me from Sat to Mon.
